Rock The Garden

2017

I spent this past sultry Saturday at Rock the Garden, The Walker Art Center and The Current's annual music festival. It was a perfect summer day -- I got to take photos, hang out with friends and listen to some great music. Oh, and enjoy ice-cold G&Ts in the hot, hot heat! I was really looking forward to seeing Bon Iver, but ended up loving all of the other artists, and not really enjoying Bon Iver's set (I actually left after about six songs; I know what you're thinking -- "WHAT!?"). WeIl, being packed into a crowd of thousands and thousands kind of ruined the magic that his music can create. Like the times I'll put on one of his albums while I am driving alone along the North Shore, or some back road in the North Woods, and the beauty of the scenery and his music just meld into these absolutely perfect little moments. So now I associate his songs with those drives, and they are (apparently) times I want to keep to myself. I mean, just listen to the song below and imagine being surrounded by giant pines, a setting sun, and an open road:

Anyway.

Below are a few pictures of the other artists (Justin Vernon also didn't allow photographers into the pit, so none of him). I was SO sad to have missed Margaret Glaspy -- she is incredible, so instead of a picture, take a listen to one of my favorite songs of hers:
